“A maize plant requires a certain amount of moisture to go through the actual physiological development from seed germination to strong maize-bearing plant. In some areas, especially in the western parts of the maize belt, we have not even received half of the annual expectation. A lack of moisture could result in the plant not developing through the its final stages which could have a negative effect on the harvest,” says Grobbelaar.
